Watco Case Study

CMS took on the ambitious Watco Cincinnati Marine Terminal project, tasked with addressing the environmental impact of salt storage on the Ohio River. The project was critical in preventing salt runoff during heavy rains, which threatened the local ecosystem.

CMS executed a comprehensive plan involving the installation of a 1.5 million gallon holding tank and an extensive system of pumps and pipes to manage and treat the runoff. The system captured saltwater runoff in a collection pit, transferring it to the tank for controlled discharge back into the river, significantly reducing the salt concentration to safe levels.

The project also featured innovative solutions such as an advanced electrical control system to manage the process and specially designed diffusers to ensure a gentle reintroduction of treated water to the river. The use of high-capacity pumps and a detailed excavation and construction plan allowed CMS to self-perform 75% of the project, with over 9,400 man hours. Despite challenges like weather variability and logistical constraints, the project was completed with a strong emphasis on safety, resulting in zero incidents.

This initiative not only mitigated immediate environmental threats but also set a new standard for sustainable practices along the Ohio River, demonstrating CMS’s commitment to innovative environmental stewardship.

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent community outreach campaign, “Real Craft Professionals Wear Pink Day,” which demonstrated our unwavering commitment to supporting the Karen Wellington Foundation (KWF) and their mission. This event showcased our dedication to community relations and our ongoing efforts to make a positive impact.

Breast cancer affects numerous families each year, and we recognize the devastating impact it can have. Inspired by the incredible work of the KWF, we launched the “Real Craft Professionals Wear Pink Day” campaign to show our solidarity and support for their mission of providing joy and support to women and families affected by breast cancer.

During this special day, our team members donned pink Hi-Viz T-shirts, symbolizing our united commitment to the cause. We captured pictures at various job sites, showcasing the strength and unity of our workforce in supporting the KWF. These images were shared on our social media platforms, raising awareness of the KWF’s significant impact on the lives of those affected by breast cancer.

Not only did our team proudly wear the pink shirts, but we also had the opportunity to contribute to the KWF’s mission through voluntary donations. To encourage participation, CMS committed to matching all employee donations, amplifying our collective contribution to this worthy cause.

We believe that fostering strong community relationships and supporting important causes is vital to our company’s ethics. The “Real Craft Professionals Wear Pink Day” campaign exemplifies our commitment to social responsibility and demonstrates our dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of others.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in this meaningful event, and we are grateful for the support and generosity shown by our team members and our community.

Thank you for being part of our journey to create a positive impact and support those affected by breast cancer!

BWC Terminals Case Study

Complete Mechanical Services (CMS) successfully completed the BWC Terminals Refined Corn Oil Expansion Project in Cincinnati, Ohio. The project involved extensive in-house services, including scanning, design, civil work, fabrication, and installation of a complex platform and piping system. Completed within the expected timeline and budget, the project enabled the client to efficiently transload their product, granting access to new markets.

The scope of work encompassed excavation, concrete pump containment pads, piping system installations, and modifications. CMS designed, fabricated, and installed a 300-foot rail/truck receipt access platform with safety access gangways. The 300-foot curved rail platform was efficiently installed using CMS’s capabilities in 3D scanning, design, prefabrication, and modular assembly, minimizing disruption to the client’s operations.

CMS also installed and modified various piping systems, including stainless steel and carbon steel piping. The team provided heating coil installation in storage tanks to maintain the desired temperature of refined corn oil, ensuring safe storage and transport. This expansion system allowed BWC Terminals to transport oil via river barge, rail, and truck, opening new markets for their products.

Throughout the project, CMS prioritized safety and compliance with industry standards. Safety features were incorporated into the rail/truck receipt access platform, and high-quality materials were used, including stainless steel and carbon steel piping. CMS’s commitment to safety and quality workmanship resulted in a successful project outcome.

The BWC Terminals Refined Corn Oil Expansion Project not only presented unique challenges but also contributed to the manufacturing process, facilitating the delivery of products to customers. CMS’s involvement in transloading facilities highlights their expertise and dedication to providing innovative solutions that support their partners’ operations.

Quaker Case Study

The Quaker Chemical Tank Farm Expansion project was successfully undertaken by Complete Mechanical Services (CMS), showcasing innovative and effective construction management. CMS demonstrated their expertise in tank fabrication, installation, and piping modifications by adding six new stainless steel storage tanks, a tank farm concrete pad with containment wall, and a tank farm catwalk. One of the project’s distinguishing factors was CMS’s personnel management program, which enabled them to self-perform 90% of the project, ensuring high-quality control and project management. CMS implemented regular inspection, testing, and training for the project team, resulting in timely completion and adherence to the budget.

CMS’s efficient pre-fabrication process in their shop proved more advantageous than on-site fabrication, saving the client both time and money. They used Plant 3D models converted into 2D CAD files with AutoCAD, and the CMS waterjet machine facilitated the fabrication process by cutting various steel components. The CMS Quality Team ensured accuracy by referencing the 2D and 3D models during fabrication.

Additionally, the Quaker Chemical Tank Farm Expansion project faced a space constraint that posed a challenge. With insufficient room to accommodate two additional tanks, CMS devised an innovative solution by creating dual compartment tanks. This modification allowed for the storage capacity of two tanks within the footprint of one, maximizing the available space effectively. CMS’s ability to adapt and find creative solutions ensured the project’s success while meeting the client’s requirements for increased storage capacity.

A value analysis program implemented by CMS contributed to cost reduction without compromising the project’s quality. The project was completed within the allocated budget, covering material and delivery, fabrication, installation, pressure testing, flange coverings, engineering, and shop drawings.

Despite encountering obstacles, such as relocating the existing steam station and ensuring safety in a complex work environment, CMS devised innovative solutions and overcame challenges. Prior to project commencement, CMS prioritized safety by conducting thorough safety assessments, determining required training, and addressing any gaps. Through their Safety Platform, CMS provided specific site training and monitored worker progress, resulting in zero safety incidents during the intense installation process.

Overall, the Quaker Chemical Tank Farm Expansion project exemplified CMS’s commitment to quality, efficiency, collaboration, cost-effectiveness, and safety in construction management.

Formica Corporation Case Study

Some clients are unsure about how to approach a project; Formica Corporation, however, was not one of those clients. They knew they needed a new process area, so they called on CMS to create the game plan and to bring it all to life.

It was no easy task, especially since Formica’s project timeline was an aggressive one. So, we sharpened our proverbial pencils, and we brainstormed ways to make it all happen within the requested time-frame.

We managed all of the construction phases, coordinated with all of the trades, and everything in between. Firstly our team created the design for the piping, planned and managed the entire project, and worked closely with the Formica team to ensure we exceeded expectations. We wouldn’t settle for anything less.

“CMS was the perfect partner for what could have been a challenging project. They anticipated every potential obstacle, as well as planned for each of them. Not only did they meet our time-frame, but they did it all with precision and the utmost quality,” said Lindsay Millward, Project Engineer.
